It starts with a countdown clock on the Duke Nukem website. How it ends we’re not quite sure, but as this is the era of social media, a leak isn’t too far away. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Duke Nukem 3D, Gearbox is taking Duke on a World Tour. Exactly what constitutes Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour is uncertain at this stage, but we know thanks to Reddit that the game will likely be a “remix” of the original game, using the old character models and textures,  but adding some new original content, and improving the lighting effects. An online co-op and deathmatch mode are rumoured, but unconfirmed.

Screenshots indicate however, that this is not a HD remake, with the graphics appearing the same as the Megaton Edition, released in 2013 for PS3, PS Vita, and later on Steam and GOG. That version has now been removed from sale, indicating that the World Tour Version is the new standard version of the game. Whether this remains a nostalgic trip or a launch pad for a new game remains to be seen. At the current rate of development for Duke Nukem games, we look forward to playing it sometime in 2031.
